When did Union Station open?
Union Station opened in 1881 to support Denver’s growing role as a major stop for transcontinental railroads. A fire destroyed part of the station in 1894, but it was rebuilt and expanded over the years. The current structure largely dates back to 1914, featuring its iconic neon “Travel by Train” sign. Over time, as rail travel declined, the station lost some of its importance until a renaissance in the early 21st century brought it back to life. The 2014 renovation transformed Union Station into a modern, multi-use hub while preserving its historical character, making it both a community gathering spot and a lively symbol of Denver’s past and future.
Is Union Station open 24/7?
Union Station itself is open 24/7 for transit services. However, individual restaurants, shops, and bars have their own hours. Generally, the Great Hall closes to the public at around 2 a.m. and reopens at 5 a.m.
Is there parking available at Union Station?
Union Station itself doesn’t have dedicated public parking, but there are several parking lots and garages nearby. Options include surface lots and garages along Wynkoop Street, as well as metered street parking.
